Story
Worked by Tunisian silversmiths using a process that dates back millennia, this classic silver piece is known as a mabkhra in Arabic and is used for burning incense, a practice that, according to Tunisian tradition, has long been thought to keep away evil spirits and rid a place of bad vibes. It is often employed when moving into a new home or preparing a place for special festivities, especially religious ones like soulemeya or Hezb Latif. If you pull gentle on the top to open the piece, it can be filled with hot embers, which are then sprinkled with incense and swung around a room. This is often filled with the traditional aromatic incense called bkhour.
