Silver Filigree Incense Burner ~ Hinged Lid Incense Holder with Handle
Story:
This classic silver incense burner is known as a Mabkhra in Arabic and is used for burning incense, a practice that, according to Tunisian tradition, has long been thought to keep away evil spirits and rid a place of bad vibes. It is often employed when moving into a new home or preparing a place for special festivities, especially religious celebrations like Soulemeya or Hezb Latif. If you pull gently on the top to open the piece, the burner can be filled with hot embers, which are then sprinkled with incense and swung around a room. This Mabkhra has been decorated with the age-old filigree silverwork process and is often filled with the traditional aromatic incense called bkhour.
